‘Busted by the Bus’ campaign returns

Officers from the Moorhead Police Department, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol cited 50 motorists for distracted driving during the “Busted by the Bus” campaign on April 12 and 13. Law enforcement personnel rode on a Moorhead School District school bus to spot violators.

“We want people to see a school bus and think safety,” said Lt. Deric Swenson, of the Moorhead Police Department. “We’ve actually gone up in school bus arm violations this year with 145 since the beginning of the school year.” The bus was used to encourage drivers to stop when the school bus arm is down, but it reveled other distracted drivers as well. Kashki Sheikh-Mohamed, 27, from Fargo, was arrested on April 12 for 3rd Degree DWI, failing to have a Minnesota Driver’s License, and Careless Driving.
