“Life is about relationships,” explains Paul Krabbenhoft. As a licensed real estate agent with Coldwell Banker First Realty, Krabbenhoft understands the importance of building relationships in business as well as in our personal lives. Building a friendship with a prospective client and listening to their needs has been a constant for his entire 26 years as an agent. “It’s important to show that you care about them,” referring to the many friendships he has developed over the years.

Building relationships in the community has led him to become involved in both business and civic activities. Krabbenhoft presently serves on the City of Moorhead & Clay County Planning Commissions as well as the FM Home Builders Association Board and the FM Area Association of Realtors – Public Issues Committee. As a long-term elected official of the Clay Soil & Water Conservation Board, Krabbenhoft has been engaged in land stewardship issues locally and throughout the state. Growing up on a farm four miles south of Moorhead, Krabbenhoft learned the value of hard work and dedication from a young age. He shared that his parents have always been good role models for him; after a life on the farm, his parents served in missionary work in Africa and the U.S. for over 15 years. His family’s roots in the Red River Valley are deep as his great-grandfather, Julius, homesteaded south of Sabin as early as 1881. He, along with his brother and sister, worked the family farm at an early age that his dad purchased after returning from WWII. The farm operation consisted of raising sugar beets, small grains, along with some livestock.

Upon graduation from Moorhead High School, he went off to college in Missoula, MT and received his B.A. degree in Finance. Krabbenhoft returned to the area in 1977 joining his brother and dad on the family farm until their dad retired the following year. Farming is a rewarding way of life, but he noted that it is not without risk. During the 1980s, the farm economy was on a downward slope. A combination of factors resulted in a period when farmers across the Midwest had difficulties staying in business due to low prices. Being proactive, Krabbenhoft received his real estate license and has been involved in residential sales ever since. Understanding that the competitive business environment requires more than just motivation and initiative to succeed, Krabbenhoft attended the Graduate Realtors Institute, gaining an in-depth knowledge on technical subjects as well as the fundamentals of real estate.

Krabbenhoft and his high school sweetheart Carol have been married for 40 years and they have two married daughters and three granddaughters. Their daughter Dawn is a general surgeon in Chaska, MN and their daughter Laura is an architect employed with NYU in Manhattan, NY. Carol works in the Concordia library. He is quick to point out that there are many advantages for his family growing up in the area. Krabbenhoft’s roots in the area have solidified his desire to work and give back.

Along with the sale of existing homes, Krabbenhoft has been active in the development and sale of new construction homes. He has worked with several contractors and been involved with over 500 new homes in our community. This level of involvement, he said, has shown him many different aspects of the building industry and community development. “I truly enjoy being part of the policy making and advocacy for our great community.” Our community is a better place because of his involvement.
