Minn-dak Woodturners Association 2019 Winter Extravaganza, 9:00 am @ In the Chips at 303 21st St. N. This free event will feature several skilled turners demonstrating multiple projects and techniques, including tops, bowls, pens, goblets, vases, hollow forms, and spindles, and visitors can even get a bit of hands-on experience at a lathe. Guests can register to win one of many turned items as door prizes. Free.

High School Choir Festival Concert, 1:00 pm @ Buxton/Hanson Recital Hall at Concordia College. Concordia’s High School Choir Festival weekend concludes with a concert. The festival brings some of the finest singers together with area choirs performing under the direction of Dr. René Clausen and Dr. Michael Culloton, conductors of Concordia’s choirs. Free.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration, 9:00 am @ Concordia College. Events throughout the day include keynote speeches at 10:30 a.m. from Tara Setmayer, political commentator and former GOP communications director; and at 2:30 p.m. from Frank Leon Roberts, educator and political organizer on the frontlines Black Lives Matter. A panel discussion at 7 p.m. includes the keynote speakers joined by Dr. Edward Valandra, advisor to Living Justice Press and founder and Research Fellow for the Community for the Advancement of Native Studies; and Dr. Faith Ngunjiri, director of Concordia’s Lorentzsen Center for Faith and Work.
