Detours change travel downtown and across I-94

Sellin Construction crews are working full speed ahead on Moorhead’s two major construction projects, requiring drivers to use creativity when crossing the city … and stay patient.

One of the busiest downtown intersections closed earlier this week. The Eighth Street-Center Avenue corner is closed to through traffic from all directions. It is projected to reopen in about one month. Meanwhile, the city has established detours, as well as limited access into Taco John’s, Mick’s Lounge and NAPA Auto Parts across the street.

The rest of Center will be shut down from that corner east to 11th Street for at least two weeks, according to the City Engineering Department. Traffic is being channeled from Center to Main Avenue via Fifth and 11th Streets.

Meanwhile, crews have already broken and removed concrete from the east side of 24th Avenue South across the interstate overpass to 30th Avenue. Box culverts are being installed on the northeast and southeast ramps, and storm sewers are also being reworked. Highway 75 is closed from 24th to 30th Avenues because of the project. While ramps on the east side are completely closed, the west side ramps remain open to occupy traffic flow to and from the west.

The main alternate route around the major project crosses the highway at 20th Avenue southeast of M State. Because of heavy traffic around 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., MnDOT continues to suggest drivers allow extra time and explore other local routes when possible.
