February Fever

Maybe it’s a coincidence, a streak of luck, or maybe I’m doing something right in my life but I will be a character in an upcoming book.

I finally got the word that “February Fever” the new Murder-by-Month Mystery by Jess Lourey will hit store shelves and will be available online, in February of 2015.

This series of murder mysteries is based out of Battle Lake Minnesota. Mira James is a young lady that moves into town and becomes the town’s librarian and also a reporter for the “Battle Lake Recall.” Since Mira has come to town, bodies have started to turn up at the rate of one a month and she has a key part of solving each murder.

It was so much fun the first time Jess was on the show because listeners were actually calling in from Battle Lake wanting to know more about the town being made famous in her books.

Jess has a great cast of reoccurring characters in this series. In my mind the plot and character development plus dialogue has only gotten better as the months move along.

I consider the book’s author, Jess Lourey, a good friend and she has been on the radio show many times. We’ve not only talked about the murder mysteries but her other works too. Plus, we once had a nice chat about the “Little Free Library” she put up at her home.

Well, her last book “January Thaw” was out on the shelves and I had set up an interview with her to talk about it on KFGO. I gave her a call at the time that we had set up. NO ANSWER! It wasn’t really a nightmare for me or anything, because it’s happened before and it will happen again. That’s just the way radio works. I’ve never had a guest not be ready for an interview on purpose. (I think). Well the reason was simple…she had left her phone in the other room charging and didn’t hear it ring. She called with only about seven minutes in show and apologized for not being there on time. She asked “How can I make it up to you?” My producer Scott Sorum chimed in and said “Why don’t you put him in your next book?” We kind of laughed it off but then I got this facebook message the next day:

“Last chance to back out, Bob-in exchange for missing the start of my interview yesterday, I am going to make you a character in FEBRUARY FEVER. You won’t be killed or the killer, but that’s all I can promise. You in? “

My reply was “You Bet.”

I have no idea about my character’s role except as she mentioned I’m not the killer or will be killed. Can’t wait to read it! February can’t get here fast enough!
