Officers and deputies gathered with their families Tuesday night for a law enforcement appreciation picnic Tuesday night at Robert Asp Elementary School.
The event was hosted by Heart of Clay, the Clay County correctional ministry organization. It featured a meal of hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and beans along with inflatable games for the kids and door prizes.
It is only right to honor Moorhead police officers and Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies for their service to the community, said Marie Swanson, chairwoman of the Heart of Clay board of directors.
“We are so fortunate in this community to have such caring law enforcement that not only keep our community safe but they work for what’s best for the people,” she said.
Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting said he is, in turn, thankful to Heart of Clay for the invaluable service it provides for inmates at the correctional center.
“It’s an amazing program,” he said. “I truly think they’re helping the inmates become more productive members of society.”
