From dogs to cats to ferrets and guinea pigs, three new Moorhead businesses provide services to pets and their owners.

Rainbow Dog Grooming
Rainbow Dog Grooming’s owner, Jonah Noyes, stresses that his business, an inclusive “green” salon, utilizes biodegradable, all-natural grooming products such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and treats whenever possible. His favorite aspect of the business is that he gets to hang out with dogs all day. “There are no bad dogs,” he declared and admitted that he may slip his furry clientele a few extra treats from time to time.
Noyes got his start in the pet grooming industry about five years ago when he took a job with Petco. He said, “The Petco experience turned a job into a career that I love.” An independent groomer in Bismarck, Miranda Seim, provided further mentorship and the inspiration to open a salon of his own. Rainbow Dog Grooming also provides services to cats and other small pets. As the owner\operator, Noyes points out that his clients always receive his devoted, gentle, unhurried, one-on-one care. He currently lives with two cats and plans to add a dog to the menagerie when he transitions from apartment living.
Rainbow Dog Grooming operates on a rotating schedule at 106 7th Street South in Moorhead. It is open every day of the workweek and one day of each weekend. Specific hours vary. Customers may call 218-422-5822 to schedule appointments and for further information.
Hotdog! Pet Salon
Mid-century modern décor welcomes pet owners and their furry friends to Cristen Voeltz’s Moorhead grooming facility. Although her facility in Suite 4 at 814 Center Avenue opened on October 1, Voeltz operated a pet grooming business in a downtown Fargo storefront for the past eight years. Emphasizing the sense of community, she found as she relocated her business to the east side of the Red River, she said, “My clients appreciate the easily accessible parking lot in my new location. I find that Moorhead, though a city, seems like a smaller town in its friendliness and support for the small business owner.”
As the pet parent of a rescue dog and a rescue cat, Voeltz knows first-hand the importance of low-stress, individualized grooming provided by the same groomer from start to finish that is a hall mark of her salon’s service. Her new, larger location features three self-service washing stations. The salon provides cleaning products, grooming supplies and towels. Clients utilize a separate drying room following their pet’s wash station session. The self-washing station fee includes setup and cleanup by salon staff.
Through her college years, Cristen worked in animal-related jobs. She attended a grooming school in Chicago where the curriculum replicated the salon experience. Following the formal part of her training, she worked for 100 days under a mentor and, upon completion, was awarded her professional groomer certification. She cites the example set by her parents, Steve and Cathy Voeltz of Jamestown, as her inspiration for the hard work and responsibility of owning her own business.
Hotdog! is open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 8 PM, Saturdays from 9 AM to 6 PM, and Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM. Although the salon staff currently includes three full-time and five part-time employees, Voeltz seeks another full-time groomer. Customers may call 218-284-8009 for appointments, questions about salon services and for employment information.
45° Kennels
Owner/operators Chris and Shasta Reindl provide a unique service for pets and their owners: custom-made pet furniture that is compatible with home furnishings. The Reindls lived in Washington state for many years but in 2009, a continuing recession led them to western North Dakota and eventually to Moorhead where they found a friendly community that supports small business owners and provides a better future for their family. The 45° Kennel title originates in Chris’s background in carpentry. As they brainstormed ideas for their business’s name, Shasta asked Chris, “What do you do the most often when you are building furniture or remodeling?” He replied, “45° angles.” Thus, their business name was born.
The Reindls repurpose furniture or design new pieces that can be used to house pets and blend into living spaces. They pointed out that as the pet parents of two German Shepherds, they found the traditional wire kennels for two large dogs taking up too much space in their home. The signature piece displayed in their showroom is a repurposed solid-oak television stand that accommodates a 50” TV with a spacious kennel located in the cupboard space beneath it. End tables incorporating pet dens flank the sofa in the showroom while pet steps and custom feeding furniture line the walls. Builder, Chris Reindl, invites customers to browse the display pieces in their shop or to bring in pieces of their own furniture to be made pet housing compatible. Shasta Reindl grew up with a parent who worked in the design field and partners with her husband to design their custom-made furniture to suit each client. A cozy consulting area located in their business office provides a space for inspiration.
The Reindls operate a second business under the 45° umbrella. 45° Angle, their building business, also operates from their 106 5th Street South location in Moorhead. Chris has worked in the building industry for fifteen years and decided to take a leap of faith and establish himself as an independent builder doing jobs like remodeling, building or replacing decks and fences. He remodels basements and bathrooms with the help of his design partner, Shasta.
45° Kennels and the 45° Angle business may be reached at 701-318-3977 or 701-404-6122. Their email is 45degreekennels@gmail.com or 45DEGREEANGLE@MAIL.COM.
