Noah & Mariah & some other stuff

Last weekend was a pretty interesting one for this old boy.

First I took in the movie “Noah” starring Russell Crowe. I can’t call myself a Biblical “scholar” but I noticed a whopping, an almost overuse of the directors discretion to change story lines to appeal to a mass audience. I mean, you’ve got to make a film where everyone who doesn’t know the story will want to go home and open up their bible and find out what the true details are. From whatever version of the Bible you may have.

First, Noah in the Bible is 600 years old at the time he built the arc and his sons were around 100 give or take a couple of years. Russell and his wife in the film, Jennifer Connelly, have just had a baby at the beginning of the movie. Maybe you could have a kid at 600 back then. But trust me neither looks close to 600.

In this film the word “God” is not mentioned once (that I can recall) all references were to “The Creator”. Plus , God spoke to Noah about the dimensions of which to build the ark (remember the term cubits) in the Bible. In the film you never hear God speak from the heavens.

There’s a stowaway on the ark in the film. I can’t remember one in the bible. Plus you may get the image that the film is overly violent in nature as well.

The movie states that two of each animal shall be brought aboard the Ark. But if I remember correctly the Bible says seven. In the film they (the animals) are put into a deep sleep for the journey ahead. I recall they stay very much awake.

There is a scene in the film were Emma Watson will make you want to tear up a bit. I won’t tell you what it is, but just make sure you have an extra tissue or grab an extra napkin at concessions. I don’t think this incident is in the Bible either by the way.

The Fallen Angels were interesting characters as they came on film looking more like the rock monsters from the Tim Allen Film “Galaxy Quest”. There are more things that I don’t recall happening in the Bible. But I have to say that I wouldn’t want you to not go to the movie because of that. It is truly a very entertaining film with a number of changes from the biblical story. Director Darren Aronofsky’s use of special effects will give you the true feeling of the 40 days and nights of rain however.

If you are a strict follower of the Bible’s text, and are one of those who don’t want to see the words of God changed around on film, don’t see this, because there are plenty of changes. But true fans of the actors and those who know the story of Noah’s Ark will enjoy this movie, however the computer graphics will tend to give it more of the Hollywood sci-fi feel to it especially in some scenes involving the “watchers”. This film in my eyes is far from sacrilegious but there are some who think Hollywood shouldn’t mess with the bible. I truly enjoyed it and I think you will too.

Mariah does it in 27 seconds.

Mariah Prussia was the hit crowd favorite last Saturday March 29th as ring announcer Paul Leintz announced her name as she came out to enter the ring for her second Mixed Martial Arts fight of her career. There were nine bouts on the card that night and hers was number seven.

Now for those who don’t know, they fight in a cage. Actually a fence might be a better term as there is no top to it and it’s about 18 feet across. Combatants are barefoot and the gloves (to me) look about the size of a child’s mitten. There’s 3-five minute rounds.

The opening bell rung with both Prussia and opponent Brandis LaFrombois coming out with fast flurries. Mariah connects with a left that caught Brandis in the top head while trying to return that hit quickly. Mariah comes in with a right round-house to the side of the body and knocks her down. Mariah quickly comes in for a series of blows to the head and the fight is stopped in 27 seconds.

Mariah was on my radio show promoting the fight last week. A very delightful young lady who really has her act together. Business woman, motivational speaker, she’s all over youtube, an MMA fighter and a devoted mother. Even if you don’t like fighting, you have to admire her work ethic.

The night of the fight I met her father as well. It looked like he was a little nervous watching his daughter getting into the fight but I’m sure he was very proud when she got it over with….in 27seconds.

If you’d like to hear my interview with Mariah just got to my podcasts at KFGO.COM.

One more note.

I just got a request on facebook to be a friend with someone in Nigeria! Not an e-mail now…A Facebook friend request. As far as I know I’m the only person to get such an insane request. It was like all their e-mails using the salutation “Dear Friend” wasn’t enough. Now they’re coming after me on facebook.

Even one more note.

Just received word that I still have one more team in the NCAA Tournament. Go UConn!!!
