Friends and Family will host a benefit for West Fargo Resident, Vicki Meyer on Friday, October 3, 2014. The Vicki Meyer Benefit has been organized to help Vicki Meyer, and family, as she faces her sixth Cancer Diagnosis and as the family encounters mounting medical bills.

The Vicki Meyer Benefit is scheduled for 5-8pm, Friday, October 3, 2014 at the West Fargo VFW, located at 308 Sheyenne St, West Fargo, ND 58078.

The Benefit will be a family friendly Pizza Party, working closely with local MARCO’S PIZZA for catering the event. A free will donation for dinner will be taken at the door. Raffles and Silent Auction Items will be abundant, with items such as: Autographed Matt Cullen Hockey Stick, UND Hockey Tickets, NDSU Football Tickets, Fargo Force Tickets, Week Cabin Rental at Starlight Anderson Resort, NDSU Commemorative Signed Football, Golf Rounds at Area Private Golf Courses and many other baskets, and Gift Cards Galore!

Tobacco compliance check results announced

FARGO, N.D. (Sept. 23, 2014) – On Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, the Fargo and West Fargo Police Departments, with assistance from Fargo Cass Public Health, conducted tobacco compliance checks. In Fargo, 58 businesses were checked and eight failed. In West Fargo, 11 businesses were checked and two failed.

Failed in Fargo:

Red Carpet Amoco, 1020 19th Ave. N. – 1st fail in 12-month period

Holiday Station Store #720, 1510 32nd Ave. S. — 1st fail in 12-month period

Don’s Convenience Center, 2500 52nd Ave. S. — 1st fail in 12-month period

Casey’s General Store, 4301 13th Ave. S. — 1st fail in 12-month period

Smokes 4 Less, 4761 13th Ave. S. — 1st fail in 12-month period

Walgreens, 4201 13th Ave. S. — 2nd fail in 12-month period

Petro Fuel Store, 4510 19th Ave. S.W. — 2nd fail in 12-month period

Fargo South Pointe, 3202 33rd St. S.W. — 3rd fail in 12-month period

Penalties in Fargo and West Fargo are as follows:

The 1st failure in a one year time period – one year probation.

The 2nd failure in a one year time period – three day suspension of the tobacco license.

The 3rd failure in a one year time period – 10 day suspension of the tobacco license.

45th St. S. lane closure from

Calico Drive to 26th Ave. S.

Northbound traffic on 45th Street South from Calico Drive through 26th Avenue South will be reduced to one lane starting Sunday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. The lane reduction is expected to last 10 days. The closure is due to the installation of a water main.

55th Street South is closed between 23rd Avenue South and Amber Valley Parkway South to install utilities. The street will be closed for about two weeks.

Workshop for Early Childhood

Professions to Address the Impact

of Prenatal Alcohol Exposure

The Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (MOFAS), in partnership with Dakota Medical Foundation, invite Early Childhood professionals to attend a workshop and discussion on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Dakota Medical Foundation at 4141 28th Avenue South, Fargo, ND, to learn about the impact of Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (PAE) and how to address it in our community.

The workshop “What is FASD and Why You Should Care” from 9 AM – Noon will focus on the challenges young children with prenatal alcohol/drug exposure have at school, home and in the community. The importance of screening for prenatal alcohol exposure in early childhood settings and how to incorporate the screening process into current assessments will be also be addressed.

Lunch will feature a short presentation on “The MOFAS Statewide Impact”, followed by a facilitated discussion from 12:45 PM – 2:15 PM on developing a community response to prenatal alcohol exposure.

Chris and Sheri Finstad Benefit

Friends, family and co-workers will host a benefit on September 27 to help Chris and Sheri Finstad.

Both Chris and Sheri have on-going medical issues and both have had recent surgery with Sheri having several surgeries including brain surgery. Sheri is scheduled for more brain surgery in the near future. After surgery, she will be required to travel to Mayo Clinic many times for follow up care.

The benefit is scheduled for 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm on September 27 and will be held at First Assembly of God Church at 3401 25th Street South, Fargo. There will be a meal, Silent Auction with many great items to bid on for the men as well as for the ladies and much more. There is also a bake sale with some wonderful baked goods.
