Thursday, Jan 9:
Jewish Food and Culture: January International Potluck, 5:30 pm @ Temple Beth El at 809 11th Ave. S. in Fargo. This potluck will be centered around Jewish Food and Culture. The traditional Jewish dish “Cholent” will be our centerpiece dish. The potluck will also feature a speech by David Myers on “The Tenth of Tevet: Lessons in Welcoming the Stranger.” For this potluck, we ask that you avoid brining pork or shellfish.

LEGO Club, 6:00 pm @ Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. People of all ages and creative ability are welcome to come make their own LEGO creation. Supplies provided. Free.
Friday, Jan 10:
New Fargo City Hall Tours, 11:30 am @ Downtown Fargo. Bring a brown bag lunch and meet in the Meadowlark Room (2nd Floor) at 11:30am. Gregg Schildberger, City of Fargo Manager of Communications and Public Affairs will give a brief talk about the architecture, costs and vision regarding Fargo City Hall, and ways to be informed & involved in local governance in Fargo. A tour of City Hall will follow with an emphasis on the artwork housed there. This event is free and open to the public.

CAPLP Housing Outreach, 1:30 pm @ Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Lakes and Prairies Community Action Partnership will host office hours at the library every Monday from 10-12 pm and every Friday from 1:30-3:30 pm to assist people with housing and support services. Pancake Feed with Silent Auction, 7:30 am @ Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 4000 28th St. S. in Moorhead. Annual Pancake Feed with Silent Auction. Tickets $6.00 in advance, $7.00 at the door, $20 for Family ticket.

Not Another Teen Book Club, 3:00 pm @ Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Historical fiction novel “The Downstairs Girl” by Stacey Lee follows Jo. She’s a lady’s maid, but also writes an advice column in the local newspaper under the alias “Miss Sweetie.” Jo challenges the status quo of race and gender ideas through her column, which makes her detractors desperate to discover her identity. Join us for treats and discussion. Free.

FM New Year’s Celebration Traditional Pow-Wow and Round Dance, 4:00 pm @ Fargo Civic Center. Open to all dancers. Free community meal. Bring your family and friends to kick off the New Year together. Hosted by Moorhead Indigenous Peoples’ Day and First Nation Electric.

Sunday, Jan 12:
Open Skate, 2:00 pm @ Moorhead Sports Center. Admission is $2 for kids (age 17 and under), $3 for adults, and $5 for family skate. There is limited skate rental available for $1.

Tjungodedag Knut (20th Day After Christmas), 5:00 pm @ Bethesda Lutheran Church at 401 40th Ave. S. in Moorhead. Plunder the tree for treats and then throw it out. Split pea soup served, bring holiday treats and snack plates to share. Free.

Kids’ Graphic Novel Book Club, 6:30 pm @ Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Join this monthly book club – just for kids. This winter, we’re going on an adventure into another world with the “Amulet” series of graphic novels by Kazu Kibuishi. Join us to discuss a volume each month and enjoy activities and crafts. Community Fund Advisory Committee Meeting, 7:30 am @ Elm Board Room at Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead.

Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota, 3:00 pm @ Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota will be hosting office hours at the library to provide free legal advice on civil (non-criminal) issues to low income families and individuals. The organization can assist with Minnesota legal issues surrounding housing, family, public benefits, and other issues related to critical basic needs.
