Pop Lit Book Club, 7:00 pm @ Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Join the Pop Lit Book Club as we read “Virgil Wander” by Leif Enger ahead of the author’s visit to the Moorhead Library on October 16. This all-American tale is sure to draw in fans new and old, particularly those who enjoyed Enger’s previous bestseller “Peace Like a River.” Free.

Forget Who, Learn How: A Discussion on the Current Immigration Crisis, 7:30 pm @ Knutson Campus Center at Concordia College. Presentation and discussion on the current immigration crisis in the southern border of the United States, and how as neighbors, we need to do better in being welcoming, empathetic, and understanding. This event is being hosted by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission of Concordia College

Cheryl Nelson Lossett Performing Arts Series Special Event: “Live Bird, 7:30 pm @ Gaede Stage at MSUM. Live Bird is a one-man play celebrating the life of jazz legend and alto saxophonist Charlie “Bird” Parker. Set in a small jazz club in Harlem NYC, the play was written by playwright, director, actor, and saxophonist Jeff Robinson. $12-$28.

Faculty Recital, 7:30 pm @ Christiansen Recital Hall at Concordia College. Sonja Bosca-Harasim on violin and viola and Jay Hershberger on piano.

10th Annual Roers/Keller Williams Chili Feed for United Way, 11:30 am @ Roers Shop at 4402 2nd Ave. S. in Fargo. Join us for the 10th anniversary bash, where there will be 50 chilies to try, an abundance of desserts to fix your sweet tooth, and a warm fuzzy feeling in the air because we are raising money for those in need. All proceeds benefit the United Way. Come have lunch for a free will donation.

Community Speaker: Active Shooter Prep, 6:30 pm @ Grace United Methodist Church at 1120 17th St. S. in Moorhead. This community program is presented by Moorhead Police Dept.

Senior Safety Academy: 9-1-1 What is Your Emergency: What Seniors Need to Know About Strokes and Heart Attacks, 9:00 am @ Senior Connections – Hjemkomst Center at 202 1st Ave. N. Hear from experts from Sanford on strokes and heart attacks and a Walgreens pharmacist who will answer some common medication questions. Watch a demonstration on hands-only CPR, visit vendor booths, enjoy a complimentary lunch, courtesy of Sanford Health, and bring your insurance card to get your flu shot. Free.

The History of Florence Klingensmith, 6:30 pm @ Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Mark Peihl, Archivist from the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County will give a presentation on Florence Klingensmith, a Clay County girl who found success and fame in aviation at a time when pilots were the superstars of the day and women faced discrimination we can hardly imagine. This event is offered as part of the Fargo-Moorhead area’s 2019 One Book, One Community series.
