Regional fishing outlooks available from Minnesota DNR in preparation for opener
Anglers looking for local fishing information before the Saturday, May 10 fishing opener can check the regional fishing outlooks from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
The outlooks provide details about fishing opportunities and conditions in various areas of the state, including for specific lakes, rivers and streams.
“Based on reports from across the state, we’re seeing continued good year classes of walleye on many lakes,” said Brian Nerbonne, central region fisheries manager. “We encourage folks to get out and enjoy some early season walleye fishing. And you can always try catching other in-season fish if the walleye action is slow where you’re fishing on opener.”
Back bays of lakes are great for finding abundant bluegill and crappie. The bass catch-and-release season begins in most of the state on May 10, and provides additional opportunity. Northern pike are almost always willing to bite, and there are all kinds of other native species out there like sucker species, freshwater drum and others that can provide a lot of action and good food fare.
The regional fishing outlooks include details about waters throughout each region and can be found on the Minnesota DNR website .

Farm in the Dell of the red river valley announces 2025
community supported
agriculture (csa) program
MOORHEAD | Farm in the Dell is excited to announce that registration for our 2025 CSA program is NOW OPEN. “Subscribe” to our harvest and receive fresh, locally-grown produce all summer long.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a farming model that allows consumers to buy shares of a farm’s harvest in advance. Shareholders pay for produce up front at the start of the season – providing the farm with the immediate income necessary to purchase seed and begin the growing season.
In return, members receive freshly picked produce every week. Consumers eat healthy, locally-produced food, strengthening their connection to the land and to the farmers who feed them.
Farm in the Dell’s CSA program is unique, however, because of our mission of “transforming disabilities into abilities.” Not only does a Farm in the Dell CSA share give you access to locally grown produce, but you’ll also be providing our Garden Engineers – our employees with disabilities – with meaningful employment and real life garden and agricultural experience. Each season, our team works hard to plant dozens of varieties of produce, allowing our shareholders to enjoy their favorite veggies and also try new things.
For more information or to sign up for a share, visit us online at farminthedellrrv.org/csa
Pickups available at Farm in the Dell (7426 40th St. N, Moorhead), Scheels Home & Hardware (3202 13th Ave S, Fargo), and Salem Evangelical Church (1111 30th Ave S, Moorhead).
We offer options that fit a variety of family sizes and needs.
Since 2012, Farm in the Dell of the Red River Valley has provided employment for individuals with disabilities in a community farm setting.
We teach these individuals life skills while providing them with job opportunities that give them a sense of accomplishment and belonging.

Minnesota moms:
Join the Mother’s Day weekend fishing challenge

The 2025 Minnesota Moms Fishing Challenge is a collaboration between the Minnesota DNR, Student Angler Organization and Women Anglers of Minnesota. This is the third year the DNR and its partners are hosting the Minnesota Moms Fishing Challenge. During the 2024 challenge, more than 3,000 Minnesota moms from across the state participated, catching 1,500 fish.

Plant it forward
this Arbor Month
A single tree can offer shade, wildlife habitat, and a place for neighbors to gather. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources invites all Minnesotans to celebrate Arbor Day and Arbor Month by planting trees and connecting with their neighbors under this year’s theme, “Plant It Forward: A tree planted today grows a stronger community tomorrow.”
“Trees are more than just a backdrop on our neighborhood walks,” said Nikki Henger, DNR forestry outreach specialist. “They build community and a sense of place, cool our cities, and clean the air. When we plant a tree, we’re investing in our neighborhoods and our future — we are planting it forward.”
Arbor Day is observed on the last Friday in April, but the celebration doesn’t stop there. Minnesota is one of just a handful of states that dedicates the entire month of May to celebrating trees and all they do to enhance our quality of life. May’s mild temperatures and rainfall also create ideal conditions for planting and helping young trees take root and thrive.
This Arbor Month, the DNR encourages Minnesotans to plant it forward. Join a community tree planting, host a planting day, add a tree to your yard, or care for a nearby tree by adding mulch or water. People also can check to see if their communities are part of the Tree City USA program. If so, there’s likely a nearby Arbor Month celebration to enjoy.
Visit the DNR website (mndnr.gov/arbormonth) for more planting tips.
