Veteran’s Corner

This past Monday afternoon after a six year absence the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) held a community picnic at Oak Grove Park. Around 40 plus people showed up for burgers, beverages and dogs. In the past they’ve had bigger turnouts. The local chapter has been on life support and is considering disbanding. I’ve been a life member of the DAV since 1993. Admittedly, I knew very little of the local working, activities and meetings of the DAV until recently.
The DAV is rated 92% on Charity navigator. It has one of the cheapest life memberships of all the Veterans organizations. Its only $325 for a life membership. Membership in the DAV allows the largest assortment of discounts I’ve seen. Literally everything from automotive to zoos. Membership perks use can definitely recoup costs of joining.
Information on joining please call (701) 451-4636 or dav.org, Facebook search Disabled American Veterans Francis J. Beaton Chapter 1.
For the motorcycle enthusiasts. Run for the Fallen will take place August 23rd. Registration starts at 1030 am, departure at noon. All this is taking place at the Fargo Elks. If you don’t ride come out and check out the silent auction and raffles. They are having a free will donation pig roast too.
A special shout out to Joe Henry and his group of partners in the Lake of the Woods with payitforwardlow.org. They have a walleye fishing trip coming up that they sponsor for many veterans every year. A couple of our local Vietnam Veterans will get to go later this month. I’m sure they will experience a trip of a lifetime with walleye guides and resort living.
Thanks again Joe and partners.
