The doctors of Downtown Chiropractic and Massage are moving into new territory – providing wellness services for the whole body and the mind.
When chiropractors Matt Gilbertson and Matt Lau – who own what was the very first business in the now-defunct Moorhead Center Mall – envisioned their new location, they saw something well beyond the services that have eased pain and restored movement to the practice’s patients for 53 years.
“We’re broadening our emphasis,” says Dr. Matt Lau. “Chiropractic care and massage continue to be our main areas. But we’re adding two additional opportunities for people to seek overall healthy lives, both physically and mentally.”
Gilbertson and Lau’s newly renamed practice, Downtown Health and Wellness, moved into new quarters at 22 Sixth St. N. in July. With double the space of their former mall site, it offers room for additional therapies including shockwave therapy and electronic stimulation. Licensed clinical therapist Sheridan Averson has joined them, offering mental health counseling and therapy to complement their whole-body approach. Several other professionals are joining, including a dietitian, physical therapists and a naturopath.
Coming this fall are two additional businesses in adjoining spaces, The Forge Fitness and Oasis Spa. “We’re redefining wellness through an integrated approach that balances physical fitness, holistic health and community connection,” Dr. Matt Gilbertson explains.
The Forge is described as a cutting-edge fitness facility. It will offer a dynamic range of services, including personal training, small group training, specialty classes and comprehensive group fitness programming. “Our team is committed to fostering strength, confidence and long-term health benefits in every member who’ll be walking through our doors,” he added.
The third of the doctors’ trio of enterprises is Oasis Spa. Lau predicts it will provide a serene, rejuvenating environment where guests can experience therapeutic bodywork, skin care treatments and energy healing services. That will include customized facials and aesthetic injectables, as well as traditional saunas, a cold plunge, red light therapy, a salt float and salt cave. “Our spa will deliver restorative care that complements the fitness side of our facility,” the doctor adds.
Gilbertson and Lau’s goal is to build a one-of-a-kind health and wellness destination – focused not only on transformation and results, but also on balance, education and sustainability.
“We believe that wellness is more than a trend: It’s a lifestyle,” Lau asserts. “We’re here to guide every step of that journey.”
