Vote152.org has details on the plan, tax impact, voting and more
The Moorhead Area Public School District has launched a dedicated website – Vote152.org – to provide information about the district’s upcoming referendum on Tuesday, November 4.
The site features details about the two-question referendum, which seeks to stabilize the district’s budget and protect student success through an operating levy and capital projects levy. Visitors to the site will find information on the district’s financial challenges, the proposed plan, the tax impact, voting and more.
“We are committed to clear communication with residents leading up to Election Day,” said Superintendent Dr. Brandon Lunak. “This is an important decision for our schools, and we encourage residents to explore our website to learn more.”
MAPS has faced growing financial challenges due to a 20-year state funding gap, below-average local funding, and rising educational demands. The district made $4 million in budget cuts this year, with another $5 million projected next year without new funding. If approved by voters, the levies would help MAPS protect staffing and programs, sustain critical services and restore financial stability.
Question One proposes an operating levy of $575 per pupil, generating $4.37 million annually for day-to-day school operations such as teacher and staff salaries, program costs, classroom supplies and routine maintenance.
Question Two proposes a capital projects levy to generate $1.5 million annually for capital, technology and transportation needs – helping keep the general fund focused on students and learning.
If both questions are approved, the tax impact on a median-value home in the district ($250,000) would be approximately $23.74 per month starting in 2026. A tax calculator is available at Vote152.org to help residents estimate the proposed tax impact on their property.
Early voting begins Friday, September 19, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 4. For more information, visit Vote152.org. Residents are encouraged to reach out with questions through the connect form on the website.
