Add some extra sizzle to your steak

From the Kitchens of Amy & JJ

Before we get too deep into steak toppers and sauces – YES, I know that “a steak prepared right doesn’t need a sauce…” Agreed. I love the taste of beef but sometimes I want to kick it up a notch. These toppers and sauces do just that.

Are you having a grill off with your father-in-law or maybe you are sick of your neighbor making the best steak on the block. Well, this week we have some suggestions that make your steak soar to new heights! Bring on the flavor!

Heavy Cream Blue Cheese Steak Sauce

1 Cup Blue Cheese Crumbles

1/3 Cup Heavy Cream

1/3 Cup Greek Yogurt

1/3 Cup Sour Cream

1 1/2 Teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and Pepper to taste

In a small sauce pan, over low heat, combine the heavy cream, greek yogurt, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce and salt/pepper. Stir until smooth and warm – DO NOT let it boil or bubble. Remove from heat, let stand for two minutes and then add the blue cheese crumbles. Serve warm. Drizzle over steak or offer as a side to dip.

Mushroom-Onion-Garlic Steak Toppers

1 Onion (I suggest red or a Walla Walla Sweet)

1 Garlic Bulb (or 4 Tablespoons minced)

8oz package of Mushrooms

2 Tablespoons Butter

1/2 Teaspoon Pepper

1 Teaspoon Salt

1/2 Cup Beef Broth

1/4 Cup Fresh Parsley (or 1/8 Cup Dried)

Chop the onion, peeled garlic and slice mushrooms. In a frying pan, add the butter, salt, pepper and parsley. Over medium heat, melt butter and combine. Add the onions, garlic and mushrooms for 5 minutes. Mixing and allowing the outsides the brown. Add the beef broth and allow to simmer until the onions and mushrooms are soft. Serve warm, stores well for up to 3 days.
