Quick action at a Moorhead wading pool spurred Ashley Anderson’s choice as the August winner of the city’s MoorHeart Award for outstanding service to her community.
Parks and Recreation director Sean Brandenburg nominated Anderson for saving the life of 11-year-old Jayce Bartzatt at a Moorhead wading pool June 21. The boy initially appeared to be playing in the water. But when bystanders realized he was having a seizure, and while the family friend supervising him called 911, Anderson administered CPR. Medics were ultimately able to revive the child.
In nominating Anderson for the award, Brandenburg wrote: “Ashley’s ability to recognize the emergency, take immediate action and perform life-saving measures exemplifies remarkable bravery and presence of mind. Her quick thinking, calm demeanor and willingness to act in a critical moment directly contributed to a positive outcome in what could have been a tragic situation.
Jayce is the son of Asarae and Michael Bartzatt of Moorhead.
