THE BODY OF A DECEASED MALE LOCATED IN RED RIVER

MOORHEAD- The body of a deceased male was located in the Red River in the approximate 1400 Block North in Moorhead.

Sunday morning, Sept 17 the Moorhead Police Department was notified that the body of a deceased male was located along the Moorhead bank of the Red River by members of the Fargo Fire Department. The body will be transported to the Ramsey County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy and to be positively identified.

The investigation is still open, and no further information will be released until an autopsy is completed and next-of-kin notifications have been made.

BI-WEEKLY BRANCH PICKUP/BRUSH CHIPPING SERVICE ENDS SEPTEMBER 29

MOORHEAD – The City of Moorhead Forestry Department’s bi-weekly branch pickup/brush chipping service ends for the season on September 29. After that date, residents still can call to request curbside pickup or haul branches and brush to the City of Moorhead compost site. To request a pickup, residents can call Public Works at 218.299.5422 or submit a work request on the Forestry Department website.

The compost site is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.- 4:15 p.m. and Saturdays from 8-11:45 am until November 17, depending on weather. Please visit the Forestry Department website for more information on chipping and pickup services. Until the compost site closes, the City has free woodchips and compost available to the public. The chips are great for flower beds and other landscaping needs.

MOORHEAD SCHOOLS HISTORY BOOK TALK  

MOORHEAD – The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County will host Brian Cole to give a talk on his new book about the history of Moorhead public schools on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 6:30pm at the Hjemkomst Center.  

Over 300 pages, Once a Spud, Always a Spud commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Moorhead public school district with many photos, statistics, and anecdotes. Cole, a Moorhead orchestra teacher, has been researching the subject over the last five years. All books must be preordered by Oct. 1 from the Moorhead Legacy Foundation for $60 at https://www.moorheadlegacy.org/store/p31/SpudHistoryBook.html#/  

This presentation is free and open to the public.  

BUILD-A-TON-ATHON

MOORHEAD – The Fargo Moorhead Community Theatre (FMCT) proudly announces its upcoming “Build-a-Ton-aThon” event, September 22-24 at Viking Ship Park in Moorhead.

Come join FMCT staff, Moorhead residents, volunteers, and local organizations as we unite to enhance the city’s charm and character. The Build-a-Ton-aThon showcases collaborative efforts and reflects Moorhead’s community-driven spirit. Volunteer teams will construct installations which will later be moved to pre-identified areas around the city, breathing new life into underutilized spaces and creating vibrant community gathering points that embody the essence of Moorhead.

FREE FALL, SPRING CNA CLASSES OFFERED AT M STATE

MOORHEAD – Minnesota State Community and Technical College will again be hosting free Certified Nursing Assistant courses as part of the Next Generation Nursing Assistant – Train, Test, Work initiative.

M State has previously hosted free CNA courses multiple times as a part of the Next Generation initiative, which offers resources and support to Minnesotans pursuing a CNA certification to work in a long-term or senior care facility in Minnesota. The initiative covers costs for tuition, fees and materials.

Nearly 208 students have already completed their CNA classes at M State as part of the initiative, and the college has been approved by the state to offer more such classes this fall and upcoming spring. The classes are coordinated by M State’s Workforce Development Solutions division, which specializes in the skills and technology training needed to meet regional workforce demands.

M State’s Moorhead campus will host classes this fall Sept. 26 – Oct. 26.

MINNESOTA IN THE VIETNAM WAR” FEATURING HISTORIAN ARN KIND SCHEDULED AT THE MOORHEAD LIBRARY

MOORHEAD – Audiences are invited to witness the history of the Vietnam War come to life with a presentation by historian and educator Arn Kind, to be held at the Moorhead Public Library on Saturday, September 23 from 1-3 p.m. 

Using maps, artifacts, and more, Kind will bring history alive with a colorful and realistic portrayal of the conflict, including the increasing commitment of five US presidents and the rise of anti-war protests at home. His presentation will include the eventual US withdrawal from Vietnam and the lingering tragic effects of a war that had never been declared by Congress. This program is made possible thanks to funding from the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund and is geared for audiences ages 13 and up.

FARM IN THE DELL OF THE RED RIVER VALLEY TO HOLD ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL EVENT

MOORHEAD – Join Farm in the Dell as we celebrate the leaves changing color and the culmination of harvest season with their annual Fall Festival event September 23 and 24, 10:00am – 3:00pm.

Grab your friends and family and get ready for tons of fun on the farm. Participate in a variety of fall activities while also getting the opportunity to see the farm and get a firsthand look at the work they do.

Activities include games, barrel train rides, pumpkin and produce sales, crafts, a bake sale, face painting, and so much more! All event proceeds go towards individuals with disabilities in our community.

Farm in the Dell of the Red River Valley is located at 7426 40th Street N, Moorhead.

COST: $5/child ages 2 – 12, or $15/family. FREE for children under the age of 2 or individuals ages 13+.

Produce, pumpkins, baked goods, and concessions for will be available for sale. All proceeds go toward supporting individuals with disabilities in the community.
