MOORHEAD PUBLIC LIBRARY INTRODUCES QUIET ROOM FOR CAREGIVERS

MOORHEAD –  Caregivers and other library visitors seeking a calming space have a new option available at the Moorhead Public Library. This month the library launched its “Quiet Room,” a space located adjacent to the library’s Children’s Area intended for caregivers and those who may need a quiet space. The room features chairs for nursing and feeding, a changing table for infants as well as books and other activities for youth.

“We are so pleased to offer this option at the library, which has already seen a great deal of use” Moorhead Library director Megan Krueger said. “Our goal is to make using the library a positive experience for all members of our community. We hope you’ll stop by to see what your library has to offer.”

CONCORDIA LAUNCHES CLIMATE ACTION PLAN TO BECOME CARBON NEUTRAL BY 2050

MOORHEAD – Concordia College officially launched its first Climate Action Plan with a goal to become carbon neutral by 2050. The plan, created by the President’s Sustainability Council with input from across campus, was announced Thursday, March 30.

“There is no more pressing global need than addressing the reality of climate change,” said President William Craft.

The plan aims to fulfill obligations the college pledged to support when President Craft signed the national Integrated Climate Commitment (ICC) in 2017. The ICC is run by Second Nature, a nonprofit working to accelerate climate action in institutions of higher education.

Concordia College aims to become carbon neutral by drastically reducing its carbon emissions.

MAKE SURE SUMP PUMPS ARE DISCONNECTED FROM SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM

MOORHEAD – It may not look like it outside, but spring is officially here. That means it’s time for Moorhead residents to disconnect sump pump hoses from the sanitary sewer system. Drainage should be directed to the street, backyard or side yard (please be courteous to your neighbors when choosing where to discharge). Sump pump discharges to the sanitary sewer during this time period overload the sanitary sewer system and cause basement back-ups.

If temperatures are still below freezing, use a straight, sturdy PVC pipe instead of a sump hose as a drain. Slope the pipe away from your home so the line drains completely and put a splash block at the end to disperse discharge.

Residents may request a seasonal waiver to allow sump discharge into the sanitary sewer from November 1-March 31. Because the risk of significant rain events is lower during this time, the sanitary sewer system is capable of handling this extra water. That changes during the spring and summer months.

If you have questions about sump pump discharge, please contact the Wastewater Division at 218.299.5386.

ESSENTIA HEALTH MOVING TO VOLUNTARY MASKING IN MOST SITUATIONS

After careful consideration of the state of COVID-19, Essentia Health will move to a voluntary masking policy for most staff, patients and visitors. This change went into effect Monday, April 3, and applies to our hospitals, clinics and home health care.

Voluntary masking does not apply to Essentia’s long-term care/nursing home facilities or assisted living facilities, which will continue to evaluate masking protocols separately. Hospice staff will follow the policies of the facilities they enter.

As the disease has evolved, we are seeing fewer deaths and hospitalizations related to the virus. Additionally, the current availability of COVID-19 vaccines and effective treatments has improved.

We will still encourage masks for anyone who has symptoms consistent with a COVID-19 infection, a COVID-19 exposure or other infectious respiratory illnesses.

Patients can request that their provider or others on their care team wear a mask.
