DRUG SEARCH WARRANT LEADS TO ARREST AND SEIZED DRUGS AND GUNS

MOORHEAD – On Friday, August 25, 2023, detectives with the Moorhead Police Department, acting on numerous tips from the public, conducted a search warrant in the 3500 block of Village Green Lane. During the search warrant, officers located over 1,500 M30 pills. In the vicinity of the drugs were over $2,800 in cash and two firearms. While conducting the warrant, two small children were also present, of which Clay County Social Services was made aware.

DeAngelo Ransom, age 33, of Moorhead is being held in the Clay County Correction Facility on a long-form complaint of Felony First Degree Controlled Substance Sale and Possession of Firearms/Ammunition after being convicted of a violent crime.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Moorhead Police Department.

PROPERTY ASSESSMENT REVIEWS TO OCCUR IN SELECTED NEIGHBORHOODS

MOORHEAD – The City of Moorhead Assessing Division will be conducting residential property reviews in selected neighborhoods in the coming weeks. Clearly identified City assessors may be walking around, viewing and taking photos of your property’s exterior.

Property reviews help the City Assessor determine current and accurate property values as required by the State of Minnesota.  An interior inspection ensures the most accurate valuation.

To schedule an interior inspection, or if you would like to confirm any data regarding the interior of your home in lieu of a physical interior inspection, please call the Assessor’s Office at 218.299.5310. Please also call with any other questions about the assessment process.

Reviews will occur in Horizon Shores 1st Addition and Horizon Shores Villa Addition subdivisions.

MSUM HOLDS CONSTITUTION DAY CELEBRATION SEPT. 18 

MOORHEAD – Minnesota State University Moorhead will hold a Constitution Day Celebration on Monday, Sept. 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Livingston Lord Library Porch.  

Sponsored by the MSUM Library and the League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley, Constitution Day commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia in 1787. Constitution Day is an opportunity for our community to broaden their knowledge of the Constitution and learn how it has shaped our history and our lives. At a time when constitutional issues confront this nation daily, understanding The Constitution should be the hallmark of citizenship to know that it is not only a document of the past but a living one that impacts everyone today.    

Speakers include MSUM political science professors Paul Kramer and Barbara Headrick. Kramer will talk about Constitutional issues impacting students and higher education, such as recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings on affirmative action and student loans. Headrick, also the vice president of the League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley, will share how citizens can civically engage. The League is a nonpartisan, grassroots political organization working to empower voters and defend democracy through education and advocacy.  

Free pocket copies of the U.S. Constitution will be available, and light refreshments will be served.

STROKE SURVIVOR SHARES HER STORY ON HOW ART HELPED IN THE HEALING PROCESS

MOORHEAD – The Red River Watercolor Society announces guest speaker, and artist Sandra Muzzy and her courageous story of healing after suffering a stroke.

Saturday September 9, 2-4pm at Dakota Medical Foundation 4141 28th Ave. S., Fargo.

 More than 7 years ago, Sandra had a brain aneurysm explode in her head. The doctors say it was a hemorrhagic stroke. After months of recovery, her desire to paint was no longer there. Then one day she bought 100 wooden palettes and started painting herself. Some are ugly, some are funny, some are depressed, some show the hole in her brain and some show her feelings and explain to her friends how a damaged brain affects her. Hear her inspiration story. Free and open to the public.

 Sandra Muzzy is a watercolor artist and a retired teacher in Bloomington, M. She is a past President of the Minnesota Watercolor Society.

BENEFIT FOR CHRIS JACKLOVICH OF MOORHEAD

MOORHEAD – A benefit through Lend A Hand Up to assist Chris Jacklovich will be held on Sunday, September 10 from 3pm-7pm at the Dilworth Community Center, 709 1st Ave NW, Dilworth MN 56529. 

Chris was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in May of 2018. Initially, Chris showed positive responses to oral and IV chemotherapies, including brief periods of remission.  However, the cancer has slowly spread to both lungs, liver, bones, and most recently, his brain. 

The friends and family of Chris Jacklovich are having a free will Spaghetti dinner, silent auction and bake sale from 3 pm – 7 pm on Sunday, September 10 at the Dilworth Community Center. Come out and join us as we help Chris and his family continue his fight against cancer.
