MAIN AVENUE TO CLOSE JUNE 2 FOR STAGE 2 OF 11 ST UNDERPASS PROJECT
MOORHEAD – Beginning June 2, work will start on Stage 2 along Main Avenue. When this starts, both First Avenue and Main Avenue (within the project limits) will be closed to thru traffic. The detour will follow 13 St S and 2 Ave S.
Business access will be maintained, but keep in mind you may need to enter from a different area than you’re used to. Please check with your destination to find out the best way to get to them.
As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding as the project progresses.
Other Reminders
Starting Tuesday, May 20, at 9 am, and every third Tuesday of the month through October, MnDOT will resume hosting monthly Coffee & Construction public meetings at the Hjemkomst Center, 202 1 Ave N. Representatives from MnDOT, Ames Construction and the City will share updates and answer questions about the current progress on the 11 St underpass. We encourage businesses and residents to attend to learn more about upcoming Main Avenue closures starting June 2. We hope to see you there!
Train horns have resumed in the Downtown Quiet Zone during construction hours (Monday – Friday, 6am – 7pm). This is a requirement of the railroad, and we appreciate your understanding as worker safety is prioritized.
Moorhead businesses are open during construction! If your destination falls within/near the work zone or along the detour routes, please check in with the business to determine the best route there.
Never enter an area that’s blocked by barriers or cones. It is not safe to drive, walk or bike around barricades, even in areas where workers aren’t present or active. Those boundaries are set up for your safety. There are signed detours installed for both motorists and pedestrians. Please use those routes.

PROPERTY ASSESSMENT REVIEWS TO OCCUR IN SELECTED NEIGHBORHOODS
MOORHEAD – The City of Moorhead Assessing Division will be conducting residential property reviews in selected neighborhoods in the coming weeks. Clearly identified City assessors may be walking around, viewing and taking photos of your properties exterior.
Property reviews help the City Assessor determine current and accurate property values as required by the State of Minnesota. An interior inspection ensures the most accurate valuation.
To schedule an interior inspection, to confirm any data regarding the interior of your home in lieu of a physical interior inspection, or if you have questions about the assessment process, please call the Assessor’s Office at 218.299.5310.
Reviews will occur in the following subdivisions: Briggs & Elders Addition, Burnhams 1st Addition, and Highland Addition No. 1.

WORK IN PROGRESS ALONG I-94 IN MOORHEAD
MOORHEAD – Weather permitting, motorists will encounter shoulder closures and periodic lane closures in both directions on Interstate 94 west of Highway 336 in Moorhead, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Crews will be starting a project to install fiber communications, overhead message boards and cameras along I-94 for improved traffic management.
The work is being done in stages over the next several months. What motorists can expect:
Starting May 16 through August 2025: Shoulder closures in both directions.
May 19 – May 22: Nightly lane closures in both directions, 9 pm to 5 am.
June 9 – June 13: Lane closures in both directions during daytime hours, 9 am to 3 pm.
Early August: Nightly lane closures, 9 pm to 5 am, and an overnight closure and detour
MnDOT is in coordination with the North Dakota Department of Transportation, as a portion of this project will take place on the North Dakota side of the river. That work is scheduled to take place in 2026 to accommodate completion of the Red River bridge resurfacing project.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change at any time. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
