Young Spuds Boys Hockey Team Reloads in 2023-24
Faced with the loss of nine skaters from their 2022-23 Section 8AA championship team and bringing back just three seniors, someone might excuse this year’s Spuds Boys Hockey team if they took a step back. Instead, Moorhead battled through one of the toughest schedules in Minnesota—a slate that included powerhouses like Minnetonka, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Hill Murray and eventual state champion Edina. Bouncing back from a 4-9-1 start, the Spuds went 8-3-0 to close the regular season and earn the #1 seed in the Section 8AA before bowing out in the sectional semifinals. Freshman Zac Zimmerman (15-29–44) and junior Mason Kraft (15-25–40) led the Spuds in scoring while senior Kai Weigel backstopped Moorhead with a 13-11-1 record in net.

Balanced Attack Keys Big Girls Hockey Season
Girls Hockey compiled a 24-3-1 record in 2023-24 thanks to a relentless offense that featured 14 different players with double-digit points and a stingy defense that allowed a stingy 1.36 goals per game. Moorhead peeled off two major streaks of nine and fourteen wins over the course of the season. Their dominant regular season campaign earned the Spuds the #1 seed in Section 8AA, but the Spuds dropped a thriller in the sectional finals to end the season. Senior defender Kate Kosobud made headlines as the only blueliner named as a finalist for the 2024 Ms. Hockey Award. Olivia Kortan led Moorhead in scoring (23-38–61) while Taylor Kressin was second in the state for wins among goalies with 23 and her 1.25 goals against average was good for seventh statewide.
