NDSU named Tree

Campus USA for third straight year

Fargo, N.D., – North Dakota State University has received “2014 Tree Campus USA” designation from the Arbor Day Foundation. The national program honors institutions for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in conservation efforts. It the third time NDSU has been recognized.

“Trees are an important component to a lively and vibrant campus,” said Michael Ellingson, director of NDSU Facilities Management. “Winning this award for the third consecutive time is a great honor for NDSU, but also shows the commitment of staff, professors and students that have invested hard work to achieve this accomplishment.”

To be considered for the honor, NDSU met the five standards for sustainable campus forestry. The university has established a tree advisory committee, presented evidence of a campus tree-care plan, dedicated expenditures for its tree program, holds an Arbor Day observance and sponsors student service-learning projects.

“Your diligence in improving the environment and quality of life at NDSU contributes to a healthier, more sustainable world for us all,” wrote May Sweeney, program manager for the Arbor Day Foundation, in a Feb. 16 letter acknowledging the award.

The Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit conservation and education organization that aims to inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees. It created the Tree Campus USA national program with Toyota in 2008.

Friday, July 10, 2015 LEE BRICE

Saturday, July 11, 2015 HALESTORM

Sunday, July 12, 2015 JOE NICHOLS

“It looks like we are going to have a very strong lineup for 2015. When we signed Dan + Shay, they were just getting their feet wet. Last week they had the second most added song on Country radio! I think they are going to be going strong by July” Stated Bryan Schulz, General Manager.

Schulz is pleased with the strong country artists booked for 2015. Craig Morgan will be a highlight on Military Appreciation Day scheduled for Thursday, July 9th. Military personnel and their families will be given discounted admission prices for that day. Lee Brice has had four #1 songs since 2011 and his latest hit “Drinking Class” is currently a top ten song. Hard rock band Halestorm is scheduled for Saturday, July 11th. They received a Grammy Award in 2012 for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance and their third album, Into the Wildlife, will be released on April 7, 2015.

The philosophy of paying a gate admission and all shows are free has proved to be a success. With attendance reaching over 120,000 in recent years, the 2015 Fair is expected to draw large numbers once again.

“We strive to keep the Fair affordable for everyone. We have multiple gate admission discounts and coupons available. Adult admission is only $10.00 per day. Where in this town can you see animals, exhibits and grandstand shows for that price? It really is a great family get away,” expressed Schulz.
