Craig Bohl leaving NDSU:

We all knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Coach Bohl’s record would be a dream come true for any football coach in the country. 11 years in Fargo, 2 back-to-back National Championships and going for a third. Huge wins over FBS schools. Extremely well liked with both fans and players and he obviously knows how to win. And, when you’re offered $1.5 million, honey baby whose going to turn that down. Like I say, you knew sooner or later the offer was going to come and Coach Bohl was going to move on. Good point by some…”What’s he got left to prove, here in Fargo?” Except possibly 4 in a row.

And don’t fault Athletic Director Gene Taylor for anything. He was approached, heard of Wyoming’s salary structure for Bohl and decided there’s no way it could be matched. He will have a tough job ahead replacing him and hopefully keeping at least some of Craig’s Assistant Coaches here in Fargo.

I have two problems with the whole scenario. 1. The timing of it all. Have you ever heard of someone taking a new head coach position during the middle of playoffs? Granted the timing of it all may have been Wyoming’s call but a very unusual one for me anyway. And 2. I will miss working with his wife Leia. She has been a mainstay in broadcasting in this town for many years and she has worked with our radio group for a number of them. A delightful lady who always has a smile on her face and a pro at her job!

Winter Driving

Should we make people retake driving tests? Both written and behind the wheel? Drivers in this area have taken the rule book and thrown it out the window as they zig and zag through 3 lanes of interstate traffic. I feel like I’m driving NASCAR sometimes. When roads are slick you’re supposed to leave triple the distance between you and the car in front of you. Forget it, you’re just leaving room for “Jeff Gordon” to slip in between. It’s getting ridiculous. Cars rolling through stop signs, no signals. TURN YOUR LIGHTS ON when it’s snowing. Also when I report on 5 o’clock traffic on KFGO, cars are driving in the dark too. Heck I even got stopped for taking too wide of a turn in West Fargo. We all make mistakes but it just seems there’s too many who either don’t care or have forgotten the rules of the road.

Local Music

Keep an eye out on the local music scene. This area has got some of the most talented singer/songwriters in the country. I can say that because I’ve had a number on my radio show. Eden Parker, Fancy That, Michael Pink, Someday Heroes, Ciro and Topher, Nina Grollman, Izzy Marcil, Brooks West, Mike Holtz, Mike Barnum with Riesage, Amanda Standalone, Beware the Vine. There’s so many more and I apologize to those I didn’t list. What’s great about these people is that they’re local and they’re not good, they’re Great and you can here many on my podcasts at KFGO.com

And some of our local pubs have brought in acts are just passing though. “Paper Lions” from Prince Edward Island was recently at the Aquarium. Their CD I bought at the show is still in my car player, they were that good. Jennifer Knapp who has won Dove awards and nominated for a Grammy came through. Again, a little treasure of music that just popped into town. Keep an eye out for acts coming to your favorite establishment.

And I’ll apologize ahead of time for you folks attending the Tom and Friends Christmas Party Dec.13th at KFGO. I’m the guy filling in for Tom while he shakes hands and kisses ladies..uh babies.
