Lots of customers

Every business wants all the people in the area to come into their place of business and buy things right? They all want customers, but very few do the right things to make it happen.

There are quite a few businesses that have a lot of customers just because they sell things cheap, customers are not particularly loyal to the store and the same goes for the owner’s attitude about the customer. But they will always be busy… JUST because of the low prices.

I have been loyal to local hardware stores, restaurants and other business and paid a little more because of friendly hired help, good service and quality products.

I remember a guy telling me about the bar business, he said, “If they (the customer) have a good time… they’ll be back.” Well, it’s true, whatever kind of business you own. If you go into a shoe store and are treated like they WANT you there, they make you feel like they like you and care about your needs, ya know what I mean?

So many business owners these days rarely come into their own business, except to pick up the bank deposit. I remember when I was young and walking into the JC Penny Store and seeing old JC Penney himself, standing right there at the front door of one of his original stores in Hamilton Missouri, greeting everyone, just like a Wal-Mart greeter. And he was famous and had stores all over the country by then.

Too many stores now hire the cheapest help they can get, train them as little as possible, offer them no future and are never there to see how or what they are doing. Leaving one or two clerks at the checkout counter, regardless of traffic flow, expect them to take care of customers while answering the phone and give them very little incentive to be courteous and friendly.

You enjoy shopping where YOU feel liked and you like the employees.

It’s just like going over to someone’s house for the first time to play cards, have dinner or just coffee and conversation, if you have an enjoyable experience and feel welcome; you’ll be back.

The first time a customer comes into a business is the most important, because all the advertising in the world will not bring a disappointed customer back… that person at the checkout and on the floor will make or break your business… pick em well, train em good and pay them well.
