Mayor Proclaims ‘Kurdish Heritage Month’

Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson honored the city’s largest New American community at Monday’s city council meeting with a proclamation declaring March ‘Kurdish Heritage Month.’ Moorhead is home to one of the largest Kurdish populations in the country, second only to Nashville, Tennessee. The proclamation cites Kurdish Americans’ role in the community’s business, labor, education and advocacy. Newroz, the Kurdish New Year, is celebrated on March 21, symbolizing renewal, unity and hope for the future.
