Our new exhibit in the Rotating Exhibit Gallery “Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings,” on loan from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum will have its grand opening and ribbon cutting July 10, 2014 from 4:00-6:00pm.

The Beat Goes On with Amanda Standalone and the Pastryshop Girls:

Location: Moorhead Public Library

The public is invited to a performance by Amanda Standalone and the Pastryshop Girls, who will share their music at the Crookston and Moorhead Public Library branches of Lake Agassiz Regional Library this July. Featuring instruments such as acoustic guitar, washtub bass, and fiddle—along with their haunting three part harmonies—Amanda Standalone and the Pastryshop Girls play original music based in the Americana/folk tradition. They also offer an eclectic mix of obscure cover tunes, and a few modern pop songs simplified, not synthesized. Appropriate for all ages. No admission and open to the public.

Hands-On Chemistry with Dr. Wyllie:

This week’s theme is “Mix It Up.” Join us to explore messy mixtures and crazy concoctions when Dr. Wyllie of Concordia College joins us for some awesome kid-friendly chemistry experiments. Thursday Night Live: Sandy Spieler and Dwight Mickelson Watch toy theatre performances featuring tiny theatres and puppets constructed out of cardboard by Sandy and workshop participants. After the show, engage in conversation about the relationship between oil and water.

Sylstad Family Benefit Mike and Brittany Sylstad, of McIntosh and Deerwood, MN, were married in 2011. They have made West Fargo their home and found out early this year they were pregnant with triplets. On April 1st, Brittany was life flighted to Minneapolis, where she was to stay until the babies were born. A week later, she went into labor and delivered three beautiful little ones. Olivia got her wings that night and …three days later, little Ainsley went to join her sister in Heaven. Baby Brenner is working hard at growing and getting stronger.

Mom and Dad are doing okay, under the circumstances, but they will need our help. Mike is a volunteer firefighter on West Fargo Fire and he is employed full time with FM Ambulance. Brittany works as a toddler teacher at MSUM’s Early Education Center. We are calling all of their friends, family, brothers, sisters and co-workers to help us raise funds for this amazing family.

The Lost World, a 1925 fantasy-adventure film featuring Wallace Beery, bears some similarity to the 1993 blockbuster hit . In this classic film, Explorer Professor Challenger is ridiculed by the London press, thanks to his claim that living dinosaurs exist in the far reaches of the Amazon. Newspaper reporter Edward Malone funds an expedition to rescue another explorer, Maple White, who has been marooned at the top of a high plateau. Joined by a renowned hunter, the group goes to South America, where they do indeed find a plateau inhabited by prehistoric creatures.

Pre-show organ music performed by Red River Chapter members of the American Theatre Organ Society begins at 7:15 p.m.

A native of Moorhead, Jill Odegaard chairs the Cedar Crest College art department in Allentown, Penn., and introduced her Woven Welcome project during her artist residency with the Nemeth Art Center in Park Rapids, Minn, during the 2013 Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener. Woven Welcome, a community-based art project, utilizes the woven rug as a statement of the inter-connectedness of individuals as they connect and create a new sense of community.
