Julie Loan Ky Alexander Book Signing:

Ky Alexander, a resident of Everett, WA, will be available to sign copies of her book,A Rose on the Steel Ground. In the book, Loan Kim Ky describes the lonely struggles of her life in the huge unknown country of America after emigrating from Africa

Poetry/Jazz Trio:

Location: Moorhead Public Library

Cost: Free

The trio, author and poet Mark Vinz and musicians David Ferreira and Jeremy Cahill, will perform jazz music while accompanying readings of original poetry.

Fargo Beanbag Benefit:

Location: Crosspointe Lutheran Church at 4550 37th Ave S in Fargo

Date: August 21

Time: 5:30pm

Cost: $30/2 person team, $40 day of event



A beanbag toss tournament will be held as a benefit for West Fargo resident, Nick Prochnow, who was severely injured on February 10 when his arm was caught in a soil auger. 100% of tournament proceeds will help the family with costs connected to the injury. The tournament is double elimination with prizes for the top three teams. Free will pulled pork meals will be served and there will be inflatable games for children.

Rylie Efterfield Wings – for a Future Scholarship Fund:

Location: M and J Brand Saloon in West Fargo

Date: August 23

Time: 10:00am – 5:00pm

Cost: $20 for a single rider, $30 for double rider

Bike run in remembrance of Efterfield, the 15-year-old girl from Hawley, Minn., who died in a house fire in 2013. Proceeds benefit Rylie Efterfield Wings for a Future Scholarship Fund at Hawley High School. Registration at 10 a.m. followed by lunch, social, silent auction, prizes and more from 1:30 to 5 p.m. For more information email k.efterfield@aol.com.

Blues on the Red Summer Music Series 2014:

Location: Red River in Grand Forks

Date: August 23

Time: 6:00 – 10:00pm

Cost: Free

This annual summer happening features the region’s top blues musicians and some of the best food around. Lawn chairs are welcome. August 23 headliner will be Lamont Cranston Band; opener is The Swamp Kings.

Island Park Show:

Location: Island Park

Date: August 23 – 24

Time: 10:00am – 5:00pm

Cost: Free

Spend a day at Island Park shopping in the shade! Come to the beautiful park for a two-day festival of original fine arts and unique crafts. Shop at the 160 juried arts and original craft booths for that special “treasure” that you can’t find anywhere else. Take a look at such items as handmade baskets, pottery, handmade candles, original photos of rural North Dakota, decorative wood items, clothing and much more!

There will be barrel train rides and horse drawn carriage rides throughout the day! There will be live entertainment featuring some of the area’s best performers. Between all the shopping and entertainment, be sure to grab yourself a tasty treat. The entertainment is close to the concession stands and will feature lots of picnic tables and shade.

Norman Lutheran Ice Cream Social:

Ice Cream Social and Benefit for the Cindy Peterson Family. BBQ Pork, Hot Dogs, Homemade Pies and Ice Cream and Grilled Peaches. Entertainment by The Moos – men from our Saviors Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Inflatable Games, Dunk Tank, Horses and Wagon Rides, and much more.

Streets Alive!:

Location: Downtown Fargo

Date: August 24

Time: 12:00 – 5:00pm

Cost: Free

Downtown streets in Fargo and Moorhead will be closed to motor vehicles and open to walking, biking, skateboarding, etc. Open to everyone.

Streets Alive! – Zumba:

Location: Davy Park in Moorhead

Cost: Free

Dance with us using Latin inspired routines and easy to follow dance moves!

Brats and Burgers:

Location: Golden Living Center in Moorhead

Cost: $3.50

Cuts for Kids:

Location: Josef’s School of Hair Design in Fargo

Josef’s Schools of Hair Design is partnering with the Fargo-Moorhead Salvation Army to provide students (grades K-12) with free haircuts for back to school. These young people will have the opportunity for a shampoo/cut/style FREE of charge! First come first serve. Tours of the Fargo Main Fire Hall will be given from 1-4 p.m. at the top of the hour.
