Moorhead High Senior Appointed to West Point

Kai Holm and his family celebrate as they learn that he has been appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point.

On Feb. 10, Rep. Collin Peterson announced the appointment of Moorhead, Minnesota, senior Kai Holm to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.

Peterson made the announcement in a phone call to Holm and his parents, Jeremy and Stacey, at the Moorhead High School.

“I want to congratulate Kai and his family on this honor,” said Peterson. “I am proud to have such an outstanding young man representing the Seventh District at West Point.”

Holm, a member of the National Honor Society, is an Academic Award Winner and a member of the Key Club. He is a three-sport athlete, participating in hockey, trap shooting and baseball, serving as caption of the Spuds baseball team this year. Holm’s volunteer activities include community sandbagging, working with youth hockey clinics, serving as a volunteer tutor and helping with the Feed My Starving Children mobile packing event. Additionally, Holm created a clothing and food donation spot at the Moorhead High School.

Each year, Members of Congress are able to nominate candidates for appointment to four of the nation’s U.S. service academies. Graduates are commissioned as officers in the active or reserve components of the military or Merchant Marine and serve for a minimum of five years.

Holm was selected for a nomination after completing a lengthy application, followed by an interview by a selection committee including representatives from the Military Academies.
