Over the top

Thanks for the feedback on last week’s article on mosquitoes.

Here we are end of July. What does one do with the last Saturday in the month? Attending the Moorhead American Legions “over the top” party. It’s an event with activities for the whole family.

11am is the kickoff. Bounce houses for the kids, several food trucks, outdoor music by Lady K and others, silent auction and other entertainment.

The Moorhead Spuds wrestling team will host a cornhole tournament with teenagers welcome. Registration starts at 1pm. Let’s have a parent offspring team win.

A drawing for a boat will take place at 9pm. There are still tickets available to win.

Post Traumatic Funk outdoor concert kicks off at 7pm, and goes until 11pm. Tickets are only $10.

This will be a great time.

The best part is proceeds go to The Honor Flight of MN/ND.

The honor flight has been life changing to so many individuals. Many Veterans including myself say “I wouldn’t sell my military experience for a million dollars, nor would I buy another nickels worth.” Military service no matter how long you served stays with you forever. We were young and away from home the first time in our lives. To drop everything you know and walk through a door of unknown leaves a lasting effect. Honor Flight allows many of these veterans a healing experience, a chance to revisit the past in a positive way. It’s often shared with sons, daughters or other loved ones. The honor flight is now taking Vietnam Veterans to DC.

If you are looking to hit the road instead of staying in town.

The FM Legion Riders are hosting a car/motorcycle run. We will be stopping in Georgetown and Ada. In Ada we will meet with other groups, enjoy lunch and have a parade around the retirement homes there. From there we will stop in Felton, Downer and Sabin. We will be back at the Legion around 5:30-6:00. There we will give out prizes.

Last year the Valley Vintage Car Club showed up with about 40 cars. To see that many classic cars going down the road is breath taking. More details checkout FM Legion Riders on Facebook.

Didja know? “You can’t touch this”. Stanley Kirk Burell served in the Navy for 3 years. He was an aviation store keeper. After his discharge he pursued a musical career under the name M.C. Hammer.
