Service is a pain

Veteran’s Corner

Tom Krabbenhoft

Alternative pain relief has become a lifestyle for me for some time now. I’ve been down the take 1 of these for pain road. Taking one can turn to taking twenty. Veterans often times are hurt during their service. I recall being hurt pretty badly in the field; I know I’m not the only one. Mission is priority and medical services in those conditions are nonexistent. Often without the rapid and right repair, our bodies heal improperly. Trying to correct years of damage can be challenging and a struggle. Here are some things that work for me.

Dry needling for me has been life changing. If you’ve ever felt a muscle that feels like a cord or lump, this could be called a trigger point. Dry needling inserts a very fine needle into or near the muscle causing the muscle to contract, twitch and releases the muscle. After this process the muscles restore to functioning order. Mike K. has been needling me a while. I’ve received a lot of pain relief advice from him over the years. He will be entering semi-retirement soon and I want to wish him well.  Adrienne, Jody and Sarah are all equally professional and I will continue to get needled by them. Thanks Big Stone Therapies for the alternatives.

The VA has the Whole Health area now. They offer battlefield acupuncture as well as regular acupuncture. Cupping is also available which I find very beneficial. Their PT department has vastly improved too. Thanks to the VA for moving in the right direction.

Massage Envy, they offer a veterans discount too. Massage therapy is another often overlooked therapy. Trigger points are often worked and manipulated. Muscles are a complex mosaic and several groups tie into each other. Massage Envy also offers a stretch program. You have a trained person help you stretch, they can assist and exceed the stretching one does at home. I’ve done the stretch many times and the results are amazing.

I’m starting Hyperbaric or HBOT therapy next week. HBOT therapy simplified is flooding the body with oxygen allowing natural healing processes to improve. HBOT is relatively a new and is very highly touted and shows great promise to relieve many medical issues. I’m going to document the treatments and very excited for positive results.

The Clubhouse, a South Moorhead indoor Golf Lounge has offered a veterans discount. Veterans need to get out of the home. Please contact them @ 218 477-3300 for details. Thanks for doing this.
