The Downfall of ISIS

It would seem as of late that the world has sadly grown accustomed to the atrocities being committed by Sunni Muslim extremists across the world. Just when we think we’ve seen the worst possible thing they could do to kill another human being they seem to find a way to outdo themselves and come up with something even worse. What I find even more baffling is the way they seem to be able to justify their actions and use it as propaganda to recruit more people to their twisted cause. I’m sure I am not alone but I simply cannot fathom how or why people desire to participate in such horrendous things. The only possibilities that I can imagine would be: mental illness, manipulation of young people who are molded from a young age to accept these views, or some people are just pure psychopaths who buy into any cause available to murder people.

Knowing what I know of this group of people, it is my opinion that they are a curse on the world that can’t be defeated solely by the United States on our own. It’s become evident that Western countries, specifically the United States is the main target of their aggression and I believe that as long as the United States is leading the charge to eliminate ISIS then all we are doing is becoming an effective recruiting tool for what ISIS sees as an American religious war against all Muslims. Despite the fact that I don’t see that as being the case, ISIS has mastered the art of using propaganda to convince otherwise moderate Muslims that they should take up arms against America, and all countries that stand with us in the fight against Islamic extremism. It is for that reason that I would strongly oppose the President or Congress from authorizing the sending of American ground troops into those areas to combat this threat. Yes we may inflict damage on them and kill some of their fighters, but it would also serve as a great recruitment tool for them to enlist scores of additional fighters who would be convinced that we are crusading against Muslims as a whole.

It is once again my opinion that the antics of ISIS will eventually be their own undoing. Unfortunately it will be a bloody and painful undoing. I think their fatal flaw is that they are so blood thirsty that not only are they slaughtering and torturing their perceived enemies, but it’s been well documented that they have even been slaughtering the very people that they’ve claimed to be fighting for and protecting. I think what its going to take for this curse to be eliminated is for those who this group claims to represent to finally put their foot down and rise up against them. Recently they have burned alive a Jordanian pilot. As a result of this Jordan has taken on a larger role in fighting against ISIS. Not long ago terrorists in Pakistan assaulted a school and killed over 100 students and teachers. They have murdered Japanese, British, and Australian journalists. They routinely tear through towns and villages committing mass executions, frequently of other Sunni Muslims. It is these things, and surely similar things that they will continue to do in the future that simply must lead to their eradication.

I am not opposed the use of overwhelming force to destroy these people, but it is not as simple as sending in the American military to swoop in and save the day. This has been tried twice in two different countries in recent history and both countries are a bigger mess now than when we entered them. America can play a pivotal role in this fight, but I believe that other primarily Muslim countries in that region must be the leading forces. Islam is not the problem we are facing today; it’s a small percentage of Muslims who have perverted their religion to justify their blood lust. History has seen other violent uprisings, and history has proven that they will only be tolerated for a brief period of time before the overwhelming good in the world puts an end to it. It may get worse before it gets better, but this filth too will meet their end at the hands of the good. I can only hope that it happens sooner rather than later.
