Veteran’s Corner

Greetings to everyone. The grass is green and the sun is out as I write this article.

Last weekend we kicked off the start of Vietnam week. The Fargo Air Museum graciously hosts this event. It’s an incredible display of artifacts, weapons, uniforms, vehicles and air craft used during that war. More importantly its welcomes our Vietnam Veterans with open arms. It also provides valuable closure for a generation wounded by that war. There is a certain amount of healing for those to be able to share their stories that were hidden and stuffed aways for years. It was a common practice to deny any military service, can you imagine that? Very sad time for our country. Welcome home Brothers and Sisters
On the National Cemetery front, great news! Senate Bill 2265 has passed the house and will be signed by Governor Armstrong on Friday. Several of us will be in attendance, however not all. We have a service that day and that duty takes precedent over everything else. I tried to request that the Governor come here to Fargo/Moorhead to sign but there were other forces at work that made it not possible. This line of credit from the State of ND will put us over the top for our building project. We are now waiting for VA approval; I’ve been told there are lots of people working behind the scenes to make this happen.
Unfortunately, we did not receive any type of funding from the state of MN considering the geographic area the Fargo National Cemetery covers it is very unfortunate that nothing was available for such an important venture.
As we near the momentous event I encourage you to continue to support our Veterans and their families. We are a proud group that loves what our country stands for.
