What you are eating

A friend of mine mentioned that I haven’t written too many anti-government articles lately. Wow, I never mean to be anti-governmental… just anti-stupidity and corruption from our political system.

Its like, how they really pretend to be looking out for us when they are looking out for their own personal gain. Like banning the use of many bad, over used and dangerous chemicals that farmers are using in America… then allow other countries to import food items grown with the same chemicals with no control over how much was used.

StarKist Tuna, once a unit of San Francisco-based Del Monte Foods, is now owned by South Korea’s Dongwon Industries and after crossing 3,400 miles of the Pacific Ocean last year to inspect a tuna cannery on American Samoa, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspector asked for copies of some records from the StarKist Co.

“Charlie the Tuna,” the company’s half-century old cartoon character, might have shown the man some “good taste,” but nobody from StarKist Co. would show the FDA employee the records. I’d say, “If we are going to import food from other countries… it should be labeled (where it’s from) and safe for our consumption.

Check in to the fish we get from China, Japan and some of those countries. We import some fish products that are raised in raw sewage water, fish that are fed chicken and pork poop and who knows what else.

There are about 76 million cases of food poisoning annually in USA. This is about 1 out of 3 people getting food poisoning every year. We eat enough tainted food prepared by our own food producers without allowing all the foreign companies poisoning us. Sad part is, even many who don’t get food poisoning may develop life-threatening illnesses as a result of food contamination.

Hell, we even had thousands of dogs getting sick and dying from pet food imported from China; does that tell you something… when dog food imported isn’t fit for dogs? Do you think these people care about our health?

Do the politicians who keep making big financial gain from trade agreements care? When everyone keeps saying “Buy American” it should mean food too!

I know that the dock workers strike hurts many Americans, but I can’t help but wonder if all those ships waiting in the harbors with freight and food just might be an awakening call… we might learn that we can survive it and become a little more self-sufficient, huh?
