Red Kettle Campaign Kickoff

It’s once again the season for red kettles and bell ringers throughout the area. The Salvation Army of Fargo/Moorhead started their 2014 fundraising campaign on the right note with music by the NDSU Faculty Brass Quintet. The group played and bells rang as the Salvation Army kicked off its annual Red Kettle Campaign on Friday, November 14 at the West Acres Mall.

Brian Quigley, Advisory Board Chair, introduced this year’s Honorary Kettle Chairman Morrie Lanning. Lanning, former Republican State Representative and long-time Moorhead Mayor, announced this year’s goal of $870,000. They both emphasized the local impact of the Red Kettles, as the campaign is the major source of funding for the Salvation Army. It is important that the goal be reached so that the Salvation Army is able to continue to provide the quality service to those in need throughout the year. All gifts collected in kettles stay in the FM area to fund basic needs services and disaster relief for our neighbors and community.

Your generosity makes a powerful difference to those in need and helps the Army to fulfill its mission of “Doing the Most Good.” The following is one such example of an individual who benefited from the Salvation Army’s services and support.

“Jane” is a single mother who lives with her son. “Jane” had fallen behind on her rent due to car expenses and was facing eviction. In order to raise money to pay the rent, she tried to sell some of her items. Unfortunately, when she was attempting to sell those items, “Jane” was assaulted, raped, and the items stolen. Facing a life changing moment, she turned to the Salvation Army. Because of your generosity, the Salvation Army staff was able to provide “Jane” support with her challenges including rent assistance. “Jane” expressed her gratitude numerous times and stated “Thank you, I just didn’t know where to turn.”

When you feed the Red Kettles this season, YOU WILL change the lives of hundreds of children, families, and adults in desperate need. From the many who have been helped by you: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
