MOORHEAD NATIVE ENTERS CLASS OF 2026 PLEBE SUMMER AT THE U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Carter Kostohryz, a graduate of Moorhead High School, will be inducted into the Naval Academy Class of 2026 Wednesday, June 30, and will begin six challenging weeks of basic midshipman training as part of Plebe Summer.

Approximately 1,200 candidates are selected each year for the Academy’s “plebe” or freshman class, and each student is required to participate in Plebe Summer. Last year the Naval Academy received over 16,000 applications for the Class of 2025.

The Brigade of Midshipmen is comprised of approximately 4,400 students from every state in the union and a handful of international students. Each year, approximately 1,200 young men and women are admitted to the Naval Academy’s incoming class.

Carter plans to study naval architecture and marine engineering. He will be playing hockey as an extra-curricular and also plans on serving as a surface warfare officer or in aviation upon getting his commission.

CLAY COUNTY SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT MOVES OFFICE LOCATIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT CENTER

 MOORHEAD – The Clay County Solid Waste Department has moved office locations to the Government Center on 3510 12th Ave South pending the completion of the Resource Recovery Facility. Citizens should utilize Door #2 (east end of the building) for Solid Waste business.

LAKE AGASSIZ REGIONAL LIBRARY TO CLOSE JULY 4 FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY

All Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL) branches and LINK sites will be closed on Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day, with regular hours of operation resuming Tuesday, July 5.

MOORHEAD – The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County will host guest speaker Kade Ferris at the Hjemkomst Center on June 28, 6:30-7:30pm in-person and online. ASL interpretation will be provided on Zoom and Facebook Live. Online audience members may register for the Zoom webcast or join the presentations on Facebook Live at www.hcscconline.org/events. Attendance in person does not require registration.
