CITY COUNCIL HONORS CONCORDIA PRESIDENT CRAFT, GRADUATES OF CITIZENS GOVERNMENT ACADEMY

MOORHEAD – It may not have been listed that way on the agenda, but Mondays Moorhead City Council meeting was a celebration of education, learning and service.

Mayor Shelly Carlson and the City Council honored retiring Concordia College President Dr. William Craft by proclaiming that May 7, 2023 – Concordia College’s commencement day – will be Dr. William Craft Day in the City of Moorhead.

Dr. Craft has served Concordia College as President since 2011 and will be retiring on June 30. His accomplishments included:

Ensuring that students discover how to learn, work and lead during their time at Concordia.

Lasting improvements to the college’s teaching, learning and recreational facilities, including the construction of the Grant Center for the Offutt School of Business, the Integrated Science Center, the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.

Helping create Resilient Moorhead, a network focused on advancing community resilience in Moorhead by facilitating collaborative ecosystem health and social equity initiatives.

Thank you, Dr. Craft, for being a tireless proponent for both higher education and the City of Moorhead.

Also on Monday, Mayor Carlson and the City Council honored the graduates of the 2023 City of Moorhead Citizens Government Academy. This inaugural program gave a group of Moorhead residents an opportunity to learn about the inner workings of municipal government, including operations and policymaking.

Over 8 weekly sessions, the participants learned how their government functions and what it does for citizens by listening to presentations and participating in discussions and activities led by City department leaders. The class also took a tour of Moorhead Parks to hear about future planning and even toured the Wastewater Treatment Facility.

The City of Moorhead is grateful these residents took time out of their busy lives to explore more about how their community government functions. If you are interested in participating in the 2024 Citizens Government Academy, watch for information next January or February.
