Moorhead faced West Fargo for a basketball doubleheader on Jan 23. The boys played the second game of a doubleheader in what turned out to be some exciting basketball.  The Pack started quick and took the lead, shooting with 51% accuracy on field goals and 41% on early 3-point attempts. The Spuds battled hard but were only shooting at 40% from the field, and 28% on 3-point shots. What kept the Spuds in the game was their free throws, as they hit 23 of 31 attempts.  Moorhead was able to rally in the second half by using tight defense to get ahead and hold the lead. The last eight points that Moorhead scored were free throws, winning the game 74-69.

Drew Hagen led the Spuds attack scoring 30 points and pulling down eleven rebounds.  Brady Walthall added 16 points, had three rebounds, and three steals. Trey Feeney pulled six off the boards, had three assists and two steals. Belind Alemadi scored seven points and had three rebounds, and Donnavin Hinsz added six points and four rebounds. Blake Walthall came off the bench to score 9 points, and David Lindell also came off the bench and added six points and had three steals.

Moorhead played section 8 rival Elk River on Jan 25 at Moorhead High. The Spuds came out fast and played great defense. The Elks scored first and then the teams traded baskets where neither team could get more than three points up. The teams had played to a 16-16 tie at midway through the first half. Then the Spuds took control on defense and went on a run. Blake Walthall launched a deep three steal followed by a two-point shot. Another steal by Walthall and two points, again. A two-pointer from Drew Hagen, then Walthall from the arc for three more. Hagen hit a three from the arc followed by two points for Belind Alemadi. Moorhead stopped the Elks cold and scored 17 unanswered points on 9 straight defensive stops. Blake Walthall had 10 points during that run and 18 points in the first half of the game.

At the half, the Spuds were up by 16 points. They came out still hot after the half with Drew Hagen scoring seven points in the first couple of minutes as Moorhead opened with another 12-3 run. Shortly after, the Spuds had another run of 14 unanswered points and the rout was complete. The Spuds bench scored 36 points in the 91-64 win.

Blake Walthall was the high scorer with his first-half 18 points and added four steals. Hagen posted 16 points and had four steals. Trey Feeney put up 11 points with five assists and two steals. Donnavin Hinsz tipped in 10 points, added four rebounds, and had three assists. Brady Walthall scored 9 points and was the high rebounder for the Spuds with seven off the boards. Everyone saw playing time in this game as the coaches used the entire bench. Twelve of sixteen players tallied points for the Spuds.
