Pianist Ji-Hyang Gwak in Concert: Christiansen Recital Hall at Concordia College. Pianist Ji-Hyang Gwak has established herself as a performing solo artist and chamber musician with appearances across the United States, in the Czech Republic, England, Germany, Spain, Japan, and Korea, earning international praise. $10-$20.

Saturday, January 28

Frostival Snow Sculpture Competition: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. Viking Ship Park at 202 1st Ave. N. in Moorhead. Throughout the week leading up to the event, competitors will be coming and going, carving away at their 10 ft. tall snow columns! Make sure you come back on Saturday for the reveal of the final sculptures and to vote for your favorite. Public voting takes place on the 28th from 11am-2pm. Winner will be announced at 2:30pm that day! The Frozen Fortress will also be taking place during the Snow Sculpture Competition. Embrace the cool of winter with a day of outdoor activities and events! Enjoy free cross-country ski & snowshoe rentals, outdoor games, a hot chocolate station, a marshmallow roast, and much more. Free.

Camp Warming House: 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Maplewood Park at 1504 17th Ave. E. in West Fargo. Enjoy various free winter activities throughout the recently renovated Maplewood Park, including sledding, skating and ice games, door prizes, and s’mores. free hot cocoa will be served and provided by Nexus-PATH Family Healing while supplies last. Bring your own decorated sled and participate in our annual Sled Parade for your chance to win a prize! The activity center will be available during the event and will offer a fun snowflake craft to keep you warm. Free.

Greenland: Then & Now Featuring Polar Explorer Lonnie Dupre: 2:00 – 3:00 pm. Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Experience the adventure of polar travel with a dynamic multi-media presentation by Minnesota polar explorer and mountaineer Lonnie Dupre. Lonnie will share about life on the trail, teamwork, overcoming obstacles and his observations of climate change. Attendees will enjoy breathtaking images and videos, Arctic gear and more. Free.

S’mores & More at Centennial Park: 5:00 – 7:00 pm. 4201 25th St. S. in Fargo. Join us at S’mores & More for a night out with the family. Cook your own S’mores, drink hot chocolate, listen to music and skate on an outdoor rink. Don’t forget to bring your skates. The rink and warming house are available to use during the event. This event is free and open to the public.

“Independent Lens: The Picture Taker” Presentation: 9:00 pm on Prairie Public Television. From his Memphis studio, Ernest Withers’ nearly two million images were a treasured record of Black history, but his legacy was complicated by decades of secret FBI service revealed only after his death. Storytime: 10:30 – 11:30 am. Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Each week, we explore different themes with stories, songs, rhymes, flannel boards, special guests and more. Storytime typically lasts for 45 minutes and is geared for children ages 3-6, although children of all ages are welcome to join the fun. Free.

Frostival Candlelight Trail Walk: 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Viking Ship Park at 202 1st Ave. N. in Moorhead. Take a scenic stroll around Viking Ship Park with a trip through Mary’s Tunnel! Check out telescopes and learn about constellations from the MSUM Planetarium and FM Astronomy Club and enjoy winter caroling from FMCT around a fire. Play outdoor games, enjoy s’mores, hot dogs, and hot chocolate, and take advantage of free cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals. Free.

Wednesday, February 1

Ask-a-Techspert: 3:00 – 4:00 pm. Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Library staff guides participants through free program navigating like phones, kindles, tablets, and laptops while assisting with tech issues. Free.

Lego Club: 6:00 – 7:00 pm. Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Join us for a weekly program to challenge kids’ creativity as they build amazing structures using LEGOs! This event is geared towards ages 5-10. Free.

“Nature: The Elephant and the Termite” Presentation: 9:00 pm on Prairie Public Television. Witness the dramas of Africa’s great wildlife meeting place – the waterhole.
