Dan Kiser Jr. Benefit

Father’s Day 2014 is over and except for the rain it was a wonderful day. My son was with his Pop the whole day! Church service in the morning where his aunt is one of the featured singers in the gospel band. His favorite place to eat and that of course is Pizza Hut, (medium Hawaiian, original crust) then over to the Zoo. We did a little shopping at Walmart and then supper at one of Dad’s favorite places. We were going to watch his roommates play in a softball game, but as you might recall it rained so much Father’s day you would have needed a kayak to round the bases. There was nothing overwhelmingly special in terms of what we did Father’s Day, and that didn’t matter because we were together, as it should always be. Sometimes with my work schedule at KFGO and his work schedule it can make things tough. But even with all the rain Sunday, I have no complaints. We had a blast! And for those who know my son, he loves life, and his father deeply loves him.

Speaking of fathers…On my “Nighttime Live” show on KFGO Dan Kiser Sr. came into the studio to give us an update on his son Dan Jr. and his upcoming benefit. If you recall on May 24th, Dan “The King” Kiser was injured in an MMA fight in Detroit Lakes Minnesota. Dan suffered a traumatic brain injury and tracheal damage from a “rear-naked choke” hold. Dan Sr. revealed on the show that his son suffered a stroke in the ring and because of it, he collapsed and the choke hold caused damage to his throat.

So here’s the deal folks. There is going to be a huge benefit for Dan “The King” Kiser on Sunday June 22nd at the Hub at 2525 9th Ave. S. in Fargo. I think you all know where that is right? It will truly be an all-day event. Pancakes will be served from 8 am to 11am. A chili cook-off from noon to 3pm. Then more food from 5 to 8pm with a spaghetti feed. There’ll be a bake sale, silent auction and for the kids “Games to Go”. Comedy from 7 to 9 pm and music throughout the day with Eric Reitan, Ska Skank Redemption, Tune in Tokyo, and they’ll nightcap the music with 24/7.

Dan Jr. has two children and a finace’. His battle to recovery will be long. He has been moved from Sanford downtown to South University to begin months and months of rehab. His first two days, he was on life support. So just like the fighter in the ring, he’s battling on what could be a long road to recovery. Hence they’re asking for your help!

If you would like to volunteer your time on Sunday, have items that could be placed on the silent auction tables or maybe the chef in you can whip up some goodies for the bake sale. Check out the Facebook page for details on how you can help out. Best thing to do is show up at the Hub and get ready to help a man who needs our help.
