Moorhead High students earn merit awards at art show

Two Moorhead High School students received awards in this year’s annual Hawley Art Show. Sierra Kolle earned a merit award for her pastel painting “Kitchen Delight,” and Alyssa Hanson earned a merit award for her mixed media piece “Mother Nature.” Their art teachers are Mick Dunn and Grady Carlson.

Moorhead fifth-grade Math Masters teams place third, fourth

Moorhead fifth-grade students received team and individual awards in the Grade 5 Regional Math Masters Tournament held in Moorhead on April 25. Twenty-one teams from the area participated in both individual and team rounds.

Moorhead students who earned Individual Awards are S.G. Reinertsen Elementary student Lila Stanley, fourth place, and Robert Asp Elementary student Lanie Leines, ninth place. Their math teachers are Amber Arndt and Andrea Manston.

The Ellen Hopkins Elementary team placed third in the Grade 5 Regional Math Masters Tournament. Team members are Stella Mehlhoff, Reid Shynkaruk, Carter Brooks, Emma Pranger and Ava Kistner. Their math teacher is Cheri Puetz.

The Robert Asp Elementary team placed fourth in the regional tournament. Team members are Ethan Fairfield, Jacob Hendrickson, Jaeda Pepsin, Lanie Leines and Eden Tofibam. Their math teacher is Andrea Manston.

Math Masters of Minnesota is a statewide competition that challenges students to use higher-order thinking skills and problem-solving abilities in mathematics and recognizes academic effort and achievement.
