Residents line up for Ward 2 vacancy

city council

Four residents of Moorhead’s Ward 2 in the east central part of the city had applied to fill the vacancy created by Shelly Carlson’s mayoral appointment as of the Extra’s press time Wednesday morning.

The deadline for filing for the vacant seat was at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The first four to apply include Evan Balko, Gail Enkers, Lindsey Cox-McQueen, and Nicholas/Lillian Guetter.

The second Ward 2 council seat has been empty since council member Shelly Aasen Carlson was chosen by her peers in February to succeed Johnathan Judd as mayor. Judd, who was elected to the office in 2018, resigned upon his appointment as a judge in the 7th Judicial District.

According to city manager Dan Mahli, the council will review applications and possibly interview applicants at its regular meeting April 12. A decision on whom to appoint is expected at its next session April 26.

The new Ward 2 council representative will be sworn in at the following meeting May 10.
