To your health

Anytime I get a cold, which is very rare, my wife always says, “You were outside last night without a jacket, weren’t you?” And I tell her the same thing I’ve been telling her for years, “It’s got nothing to do with it.”

“You haven’t been taking your vitamins have you?” “Yes dear, I never miss and vitamin C is always on my menu.” Well, I happen to know I forgot my hand sanitizer the other day when we went to the casino and those machines are walking germ warfare.

I have read about scientist doing studies for years on colds…spraying cold viruses on half the volunteers, making the other half go out into the cold, some staying indoors and some out and so on. The results ended up about the same no matter what they did. People get more colds in the winter because they spend more time indoors breathing the same air and passing the stuff around.

Those people that belong to all the organizations that break the ice on the lake jump in freezing water… they don’t get colds any more than anyone else. If your resistance is down and you are exposed to someone who has a cold… you’re gonna get it.

Some doctors say most vitamins are worthless while some know their importance. A lot of people are that way to. I had a job working for Swanson’s Health Products back years ago and I learned a lot about vitamins. One thing I know is I am 72 and a half years old, been smoking at least a pack or more of cigarettes a day since I was 14, did my share of drinking in my day, ate pretty much whatever I wanted, drink 3 or 4 cups of coffee daily and I am still alive and in pretty good health physically and mentally. I do take a regiment of vitamins daily… 1,000 mg of time release Vitamin C, 100 mg of Co-Q, B complex, 1,000 mg of Omega fish oil two times daily and 1,000 IU of Vitamin E. Maybe I’ve been lucky, maybe I’ll die tomorrow, I don’t know, but I would probably live a lot longer if I’d throw them damn cigarettes away, but I am a drug addict and addicted to nicotine.

They say to avoid salt and butter, I have always had salted popcorn and love to wipe the popcorn around in the butter and salt at the bottom of the bowl. Well, I still eat salt and haven’t had any trouble with blood pressure but I have backed off the butter a little and keep my weight in a normal range since I found out my bad cholesterol was getting higher. I do eat a lot of veggies and don’t pig out on fat food. Maybe a little butter is better than some of this artificial butter that’s closer to eating lard.

Ya must remember, everyone’s different and a lot of bad health is inherited and drugs are not the only way to control a lot things. There are lots of certain diets that can make you healthier than a lot of drugs.

Listen to your doctor but if you want to learn more, get on the Internet or go to the library and read up on this stuff. Stay away from cigarettes, a little glass of wine or brandy isn’t gonna kill ya, but getting obese and not getting exercise is just as deadly.
